The son of a road transport operator, Yves Berger taught English before joining Grasset, the French publishing company, in 1960. His first novel "Le Sud' (published in 1962), remains his most famous work. Twenty years later, it became a TV movie directed by Philippe Monnier'. He is also the author, among other titles, of "Le Fou d'Amérique" (1976), "Les Matins du Nouveau Monde" (1987) and "Santa Fé" (2000).
