Christian Bonke (1973) is a Copenhagen-based film director who works in between documentary and fiction. Hercules Falling (2025) had it´s world premiere at Tallinn Black Nights where it won Best First Feature and the Fipresci (International Critics) Award for best feature. The Jury´s motivation: "(...) We award this film for its documentary-like precision, its captivating and emotionally impactful storyline, its precise staging and assured direction of both professionals and non-actors alike, it’s astonishing that this powerful film is the work of a first-time feature director".
Bonke attended the National Film School of Denmark, graduating in 2005. His documentary "Ballroom Dancer" (2011) received critical acclaim and won awards at festivals such as Tribeca, Nordic Panorama, and London Raindance. In 2015 he directed "Ejersbo", a documentary about a Danish author Jakob Ejersbo. In 2022, he co-directed a documentary about modern advertising titled "Kill Your Darlings".
