Aitken sang as a choristor with the D'Oyly Carte Repertory Opera
Company from April 1922 until June 1939. During these seasons he played
the following small, but featured, roles: Francesco and Annibale in
"The Gondoliers" (he recorded Francesco with HMV in 1927), 1st Yeoman
and Leonard Meryll in "The Yeomen of the Guard", and the Solicitor in
"Patience". He also occasionally deputised as The Defendant in "Trial
By Jury", and Dick Dauntless in "Ruddigore".
