Doug Luberts began his interest in the visual and dramatic arts at the
age of six, when he received a Kodak Instamatic camera as a Christmas
gift from his father.
By the age of 10, Doug was well-versed in black & white darkroom
technique, and was working as a photographer for several local and
national publications ("The Brooklyn Spectator", "The Home Reporter &
Sunset News" and "Drum Corps News", to name a few) while attending High
School.
In College, Doug's interests turned to Motion Pictures and Theatre,
leading to work as a portfolio photographer for Theatrical Designers,
as well as Sound Design work at the Olde Globe Theatre in San Diego.
While at the Globe, Doug served as the Assistant Sound Designer for the
world premiere of Ted Tally's "Terranova", directed by Gerald
Gutierrez. That year the Olde Globe won a Tony Award for Best Regional
Theater.
After graduating from San Diego State University with undergraduate
degrees in Film and Design for Theatre and Television, Doug worked as a
Stage Manager and Electronic Graphics operator at San Diego's Channel
10, KGTV television, before moving to Los Angeles, where he was a
Lighting Engineer and Computer Lighting Control Operator at Metromedia
Studios.
A short trip back to New York City in the mid '80s, along with a strong
interest in emerging Personal Computer technology, led to a 15-year
career as an Information Systems Consultant, specializing in Database
Application Development and Management Consulting for Fortune 100
firms, as the President, and owner, of New Jersey-based Citation
Systems, Inc.
In the late 1990's, a desire to get back to his creative roots in Film,
along with computer-related advancements in Post Production
Technologies, Doug went back to school, studying Visual Effects at
NYU's Center for Advanced Digital Applications (CADA) and Avid Post
Production Technologies before returning to Hollywood.
Since 2001, Doug has been working almost exclusively in Feature Film
Post, including work at Studios such as Warner Bros. Animation, EFILM
Digital Labs, and Pacific Title & Art Studio.
A member of the Motion Picture Editors Guild, Doug has also worked as
an Assitant Editor or VFX Editor on many major Hollywood films,
including working as an Assistant Editor for veteran editors including
Jim Stewart, A.C.E. and Robert Florio, A.C.E.
In 2006, Doug joined the staff of Industrial Light & Magic as a
Production Technology Specialist, affording him the ability to work on
a variety of blockbuster VFX films with some of the most talented
artists and engineers in the Visual Effects community.
Frequently called upon to provide editorial assistance and technical
advice to editors and filmmakers, Doug currently lives in the San
Francisco Bay Area where, in his spare time, he likes to indulge in
interests including riding motorcycles, Drum & Bugle Corps and
Documentary Filmmaking.
