Actress Janine Barris was raised in Fairlawn, New Jersey. She is the
daughter of visual artist Beverly Barris and Wall Street businessman
Jonas Gerstl. Being raised by both sides of the brain, as she likes to
call it, she has developed a strong creative and business sense for
Hollywood. Janine's great Uncle,George Barris, is one of the most
prominent photographers of the 20th Century most known for his work
with Marilyn Monroe. Both of her parents are Jewish and of Romanian,
Hungarian, and Austrian decent. They were raised in the Bronx. Janine
is her mother's only child and has two half brothers.
Janine went to George Washington University where she studied Dramatic
Literature and Theatre. While at University, she was offered her first
major film starring Dominique Swain in "The Intern". She also went
abroad to Corisca to perform the role of Andromache in "The Trojan
Women" in a prestigious theatre festival in Corsica. After graduation,
Janine moved to New York City where she continued her extensive
background in theatre ranging from starring alongside Farrah Fawcett on
Broadway, to performing in Bernard Marie Koltes's version of "Hamlet"
in French at The National Theatre of Orleans, France.
Janine moved to Los Angeles to further her career in film and
television. Building a solid career in both comedy and drama, Janine
recently appeared alongside Steve Carell in the romantic comedy,"Crazy
Stupid Love". She will soon play the love interest in the romantic
comedy crime film, "Fashionista". Janine is also a producer with many
exciting film and theatre projects in the works at different stages of
development.
