Parag Abhay Tipnis was born on 17th February 1982 in Dombivili, India. His father was an Electronics Data Processing Officer with a textile mill and one of the early proponents of software engineering in India and his mother was a homemaker. He completed his high school education at the People's Education Soceity's New English School in Thane - MH, India, and later studied at Ramnarain Ruia College, Mumbai University to earn a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Statistics.
He had been involved in theatre since childhood and performed with the Children's Theatre for 3 years. In his college years, he was a leading member of the theatre club performing in prestigious intercollegiate competitions in Mumbai, which have produced many of the contemporary movie stars in the Hindi and Marathi film industry. Along with acting, he shouldered the responsibility of production management for the plays staged at the competitions.
He took a hiatus from theatre after his graduation to focus on a career in Information Technology. After more than a decade of traveling in different countries for work and spending considerable time on the African continent, he came back to Mumbai. He started dabbling in experimental theatre while also beginning work on his first short film Chudiyan. He wrote and directed Chudiyan which was shot in 2018 and post-production was completed in 2019. Chudiyan won several accolades in prestigious film festivals across the world. Chudiyan was released to the general public in May 2021.
Parag Tipnis continues to live in Mumbai and work on scripts for his upcoming projects.
