Ahmed Tahsin Shams is an Associate Instructor/Graduate Researcher [PhD program, 2023-2028] in Media Arts and Sciences [Cinema Studies] at Indiana University Bloomington, USA. His research interests span elemental realism, eco-cinema aesthetics and pedagogy, and creative storytelling practices in the (post)Anthropocene. Shams worked as an instructor at the University of Chicago (USA) from August 2024 to September 2025. Earlier, he served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of English at Notre Dame University Bangladesh from 2016 to 2021. He also serves as a co-curator of the City Lights Film Series (2025-2026) at IU Bloomington and co-director of the In Light Human Rights Documentary Film Festival (2026).
In addition to his academic work, Shams’ recent creative productions include Arshinagar (English title: Reflection, 52 mins, Bangladesh, 2022), a transcreation of Beckett’s Waiting for Godot (1953), available on Amazon Prime Video; Beckettree (visual poem, 3 mins, USA); and Entangled Currents (7 mins, 2025), a transcreation of Kevin Rittberger’s Two Suns and a Setting (Zwei Sonnen und ein Untergang). His recent hybrid documentary films include Listen (52 mins, 2024); Truth, Power, and Freedom (11 mins, 2025); and Cogito, Ergo Sum (12 mins, 2025). And his ongoing documentary projects are Lotus in the Wasteland (30mins, 2026), and Tree-zine (10mins, 2026).
