Abiy Ahmed Ali is a Ethiopian politician and statesman. Prime Minister of Ethiopia (since April 2, 2018). Nobel Peace Prize Laureate.

While still a teenager, he joined the rebel forces operating against the regime of Haile Mariam Mengistu, joining the ranks of the Democratic Organization of the Oromo Peoples (of which he remained a member even after its transformation into a political party). After the rebels led by Meles Zenawi came to power, he continued to serve in the ranks of the country's armed forces. In 1995, he was part of the UN peacekeeping contingent in Rwanda.

In 2007, he became one of the founders of the Ethiopian Information Agency for Online Security and Deputy Director of this organization (acting as Director since 2008), and was appointed to the boards of directors of the national telecom operator Ethio Telecom and the national television company. In 2010, he left military service with the rank of lieutenant colonel and was elected to the lower house of parliament - the Council of People's Representatives. In 2014, he was appointed director of the Science and Technology Information Center, and in 2015, he was appointed Minister of Science and Technology.

Abiy Ahmed Ali was elected by an overwhelming majority and was confirmed as prime minister on April 1, 2018. On October 4, 2021, Abiy Ahmed was re-elected as Prime Minister of Ethiopia for the next five years.
