S.E. Smith, Susan E. Smith, was born October 11, 1963 at the Glasgow Air Force Base hospital in Glasgow, Montana. The youngest daughter of Robert and Velma Guindon. Her father was a career Air Force member and her mother worked at various positions in the educational and financial industries. The family moved to MacDill Air Force base in Tampa, Florida in 1965. Susan attended public schools in Tampa until the family moved to Arkansas in 1977 where she graduated with honors.
Susan continued her education at Southern Arkansas University-Technicial Branch, in Camden, Arkansas receiving her A.S. Degree in Electronics before moving to Florida in 1984. She met and married Steve Smith in 1986. They have four children. Susan continued her education eventually receiving her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and her Master's Degree in Integrating Technology into the Curriculum. She began writing in 2010 and published her first four books on March 31, 2012. By August of 2012, she was selling more than 10,000 books a month with the numbers steadily increasing. In January of 2013, Susan made the USA TODAY as an Indie writer on Hunter's Claim: The Alliance Book 1. She briefly negotiated with a New York Publishing House before deciding to continue to self-publish. In September of 2013, she made the New York Times Bestseller list with her Twin Dragons: Dragon Lords of Valdier Book 7. In between, she continued to make the USA TODAY Bestsellers list. By the time she made the New York Times Bestsellers list again, she had decided to retire from her position at the School Board to pursue a full-time career as a writer and entrepreneur.
