From an early age, it was evident that Zouan Kourtis had a deep inclination toward the arts. Initially preparing to study Fine Arts, fate led him to the world of cinema, where he ultimately graduated as a Film Director. A huge admirer of Georges Méliès, he created his first stop-motion short film, Trip to the Moon, inspired by the iconic 1902 classic. This film won an award at the Video Athens Festival in 2006, marking the beginning of his unique cinematic journey. His influences include Tim Burton, the evocative music of Danny Elfman, and the pioneering masters of German Expressionist Cinema, such as Fritz Lang, Robert Wiene, and Friedrich Murnau. He also finds inspiration in contemporary filmmakers like Wim Wenders, shaping his distinctive blend of dark fantasy, surrealism, and poetic storytelling. Among his most notable animated works are the masterpiece "Rembrandt", "Christ", and "Domenicos", a tribute to the visionary paintings of Greek artist El Greco (Dominikos Theotokopoulos), along with many more.
