Ashok Solanki a distinguished makeup artist within the Indian Bollywood film industry, was born in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India. His formal education concluded at the 9th standard. In 1980, Mr. Solanki relocated from Jodhpur to Mumbai, embarking upon his professional journey within the film industry.
Originating from a Thakur family with landholding interests, Mr. Solanki commenced his career as an assistant makeup artist. He subsequently secured an apprenticeship under the tutelage of Ashok Gavas, a prominent makeup artist renowned for his work with esteemed actors such as Dilip Kumar, Rajendra Kumar, and Nutan. Mr. Solanki further expanded his expertise through extensive collaboration with established makeup artists Shashi Mhatre and Vasant Salvi.
Transitioning to freelance work, Mr. Solanki debuted as a personal makeup artist on the 1986 film, Main Balwan. Throughout his career, he has served as the personal makeup artist for a roster of notable actors, including Vinod Khanna, Hema Malini, Seema Biswas, Divya Dutta, Kishori Shahane, Mamta Kulkarni, Aarti Chhabria, Zarine Khan, Vikram Gokhale, Hemant Pandey, and Gaurav Khanna.
Mr. Solanki has mastered the specialized domain of special effects prosthetic makeup, establishing himself as a sought-after expert in wig-making and prosthetic.
Mr. Solanki holds membership in the Cine Costume Makeup Artist and Hair Dressers Association and the FTDA Indian Film TV Television and Directors Association, underscoring his professional standing within the industry.
