Assia Djebar was born on June 30, 1936 in Cherchell, Algeria. She was a director and writer, known for La Zerda ou les chants de l'oubli (1983), La nouba des femmes du mont Chenoua (1979) and Double je (2002). She was married to Malek Alloula and Ahmed Ould-Rouïs. She died on February 6, 2015 in Paris, France.
