Doreene is best known for her portrayal of Eric's mother, Beatrice Effiong in Netflix’s Sex Education. Her recent television work includes Call the Midwife and Mr Loverman for the BBC, she has recently filmed an episode of BRASSIC for Sky. With over thirty years of professional acting experience, she has extensively performed in theatre, television, radio, and film. Last year, she played Mrs Charles, in Jack Holden’s adaptation of Alan Hollinghurst’s novel, The Line of Beauty, directed by Michael Grandage. In 2024 she starred as Lena Younger in the highly acclaimed Headlong production of A Raisin in the Sun. Proud of her Jamaican heritage and Coventrian upbringing, Doreene has written her first full-length play, 'Behind God’s Back', set in her hometown. Actresses Jo Martin and Cherrelle Skeete are attached to play Mother and Daughter.
