Mermaids' Lament (2023)
Plot: Dr. Nell Jamison is a brilliant but haunted psychiatrist struggling with her own deep-seated anxiety and a tragic past. Her clinical world is upended when she encounters Oee, a traumatized young woman who has lost her voice and fervently believes she is a mermaid trapped on land. Initially viewing Oee as a fascinating "patient study" in delusion, Nell takes her in to help her reconnect with reality. However, as the two women bond, the line between medical perception and magical realism begins to blur. Through Oee's wide-eyed wonder and Nell's clinical skepticism, the film explores themes of neurodivergency, recovery, and the power of imagination as a tool for surviving profound trauma
